For too long the "trolls" under the bridge have dominated the politics in this great state. The government of this State of Michigan in no way reflects the values of this our great state of SUPERIORLAND! Yes, citizens I am renewing the call for secession from this state of Michigan. As citizens of Superiorland we understand that the Upper peninsula has a unique cultural heritage that is separate and distinct from those people that live under the bridge.

Corddry? You Sent Cordry!?

On Tuesday's "The Daily Show" Rob Corddry was sent to Detroit to report on the lay-offs at Ford. Corddry was introduced as the "Detroit/Upper Peninsula Correspondent". I personally have mixed feelings regarding this revelation. On the one hand, it's great for the UP to garner attention from a Peabody award winning news program. On the other hand, Corddry? How can you send a Red Soxs fan to Michigan. You see originally, the Red Sox were the Calumet "Red Jackets" but those hoity toity East Coast folks went and stole the team away from the state eventually to be called Superiorland. SISU takes great offense to this development.
Besides, wouldn't Samantha Bee be a more logical choice for an UP correspondent. Heck, all you coastal people think we're part of Canada anyway. Not to mention, she's kinda hot...for a non-Superiorlander/Canadian.

Bah, you're talking baseball, and that doesn't count. Besides, the quality of Rob's reporting far outweighed any loyalty issues - that was a kick-ass segment.

You do realise that the 'trolls' you speak of actually pay a lot of your state services right?

We should just join Wisconsin. They're quality people down there - minus the liberal wackjobs in dane county. We should join up and call it a day - We would be the sweetest shaped state.

And you should drop the 'land' part and just go with Superior. It sounds like a more plausable idea that way.

I don't feel comfortable with Corddry or Samatha becoming the "Upper Peninsula Correspondent". Therefore I propose that I become the Upper Peninsula Correspondent for The Daily Show. I can inform the nation on issues like "How to make a pasty", "The history of the Toledo war", and my pre made bit called "Look another tree".

The lower peninsula pays almost all of your state services. Due to lack of population, if you were your own state you would shrivel up and die. This is never going to happen, get over it and move on with your life, or move to Canada.

Michigan doesn't need you. Go become your own state or join with Wisconsin. Either way Michigan can try to claim Toledo and the piece of land that Indiana stole too.

Why the negativity? The lack of unity is possibly what hurts the state. I hold jobs in both parts of the state and am a member of the community in both. This type of rhetoric is very hurtful to those who try to make an honest effort to be a member of each community they live in. The two parts of the state make for a diversity that is unmatched by any other. Why would you want to lose that and not work it to the Michigan's advantage?

It's not anyones fault that they were born in one part of the state or the other. All of the state is economically depressed, and the issues need to be addressed as a whole. I am a Michigander, not a troll or a yooper (however fun those words might be).

Michigan's policies are failing. The budget crisis is an example of this. Where was Michigan's laws during the strike of 1913? Why was nothing done about Italian Hall? Power to the people! Viva La Superior!

I am a born and raised Yooper (Grand Marais) but live in the Metro Detroit area due to employment. I will tell you this, you are stoned. We are one State. Simple as that. Without the Lower, the Upper dies. Sorry, but that is the way it is. Go blog about something else.

OK, let's negotiate here...
So...Michigan really WANTS Toledo?!!!
OK, you have to switch populations with Ypsilanti or Romulus...your choice. Personally, I've never trusted Romulans...that pointy-eared thing gives me the willies.

By the time the emerald ash borer gets through, both states will be savannahland anyway...

I hate to resurrect this post, but I came across this randomly, and wanted to laugh at how all these people posting comments are still fighting some variation on the Toledo War.

(posted from Toledo, incidentally, moving to Marquette very soon and can't wait)

We here in Northern Wisconsin are looking to join your cause and are wondering if you have an organized group trying to make this a reality before we form one of our own. If you already have a group then we should just join forces so we have a single coherent message. Walker has plans to destroy Northern Wisconsins environment and we cannot allow that to happen. If you want to contact me you can do so at Straw_monkey@yahoo.com.

Something to consider: The Northwest Ordinance of 1787 specified that the Northwest Territory be divided eventually into no less than 3 states but no more than 5 states. Since the UP was part of the Northwest Territory, creating a 51st state of Superior would be breaking that centuries old law. The law would have to be changed or amended to make this secession legal.
